The Kentucky Paranormal Research Organization, a branch of
the Alabama Paranormal Research Organization, went on July
21st for an hour and a half tour of Waverly Hills Tuberculosis
Sanitarium in Louisville Kentucky. Waverly Hills opened on July
26, 1910.
The building was only designed to accommodate 40-50
tuberculosis patients. Tuberculosis was becoming such a
widespread epidemic that a larger sanitarium was built to
accommodate 400 patients. This was opened October 17th in
1926. This building was considered one of the most
modern equipped facilities in it's day.. There were other
buildings at Waverly Hills but over time has since been
demolished. Waverly Hills was closed in 1961. Between these
years is it estimated that 63,000 thousand people passed
away at Waverly Hills.
There were 7 researchers to go on this investigation. On the
way down we all had strong anticipation about Waverly Hills.
We went through a rough storm - and just knew
with the environment and all the energy in the air that we had a
great night in store for us.
Upon arriving we just had the feeling, as strange as it may
sound, that "they" knew we were coming. We arrived 45
minutes early. As we waited in the parking lot we started to
take pictures of the outside of the building. On camera one
could not see what we later found when we viewed the
pictures that you will find posted on the sight.
As we began our tour, the feeling wasn't a "scary" one.
Indeed, the further we walked into the history of Waverly halls
a feeling did start to come in. The feeling of sadness was
among us all. The only thing that a person can do is to look at
the room you are in and try to imagine how it "used" to look in
its day. Vandalism has truly taken it's toll on Waverly Hills . .
.A place where many called home. As we walked through the
halls, most of us had the feeling of "being watched". We got to
do a shadow walk on the 4th floor. This is where all equipment
has to be turned off that gives off ANY kind of light. The group
stayed back and watched as one person walked down the
hall. Stopped. Turned around. Walked back towards the
group. We watched one of our researchers, Nick, take the
walk. On the way back he was overshadowed. This shadow
was taller and bigger than he was. He later stated that he
didn't feel anything until his walk back. On the walk back, he
(Nick) began to feel "weighed down", as if someone were
pushing his shoulders down. While this was happening, two of
our researchers in the back of the group Glenn and Danny
,
watched a shadow person walk out of a room out to the hall
as if to be looking right at them, then just disappeared.
Directly after this incident, what looked to be a white human
figure came in, out of nowhere and also disappeared. This
being around where the shadow had been. This floor is truly
amazing and in our opinion, quite active.
On the 5th floor is an area where the kids were taken to play
outside on the roof. While in this area, one of our researchers,
Crystal, had her cigarettes moved up from her pocket. Crystal
had buttoned her back pocket and the first time this happened
she (Crystal) hadn't thought anything about it. The second
time, she (Crystal) had asked me to check her pocket to make
sure they were buttoned - they were. The button had been
undone and the cigarettes again had been moved half way out
of her pocket. This happened 3 times to her. In the same
area, one of our researchers (Nancy) was standing near
where a window frame was. She (Nancy) had the sensation of
"little" fingers on the back of her leg - like a child would do as
if to go "tickle" "tickle" "tickle". Directly after that she (Nancy)
felt what to be a little finger running down her hairline. The
shocking thing is that Nancy wasn't aware this is where the
children used to be until after these two events happened.
If any of you reading this ever have a chance to go to Waverly
Hills - I truly in my opinion recommend going. All donations for
the tours (1 1/2 hour), half night (4 hours) and all night (8
hours) goes towards the restoration of Waverly Hills. Due to
timing, our group booked a hour and a half tour. We were with
about 20 people as a whole for this tour.
However, the tour alone grabbed such an interest for all of us
that our group is planning to go back for an overnight stay to
investigate Waverly Hills further. For all the material we
retrieved for just a hour and a half tour, I can't begin to
imagine what an overnight stay will have in store for us.
I thank you for your time in reading about our investigation at
Waverly Hills. We hope you enjoy your journey with us as
